Position Description
PRIMARY PURPOSE: Under the direction of terminal management, direct and supervise the marine union (USW) workforce, facilities and equipment for the safe and efficient transfer of materials between vessel and dock at the marine terminal in accordance with work instructions and government regulations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
Monitor departmental production and maintenance
o Assign crew members to daily duties
o Advise terminal management of progress toward objectives and develop strategies for necessary adjustments
o Ensure departmental production objectives are achieved and consistent with EHS, customer requirements and quality standards
o Develop, instruct, motivate and discipline the workforce in compliance with company standards
o Recognize and promote ideas that provide safer, more efficient and cost effective operations
o Effectively interface with customer representatives, regulators, company staff and others as required
o Assist management in identifying and correcting potential operational and/or safety hazards
o Adhere to all KM policies and procedures
o Participate in and present daily Safety / Quality Talks
o Confer with Management regarding operational and employee issues
o Assist management with recommendations on employee performance, safety and incentive acitivity
o Identify, report and correct safety and environmental concerns
o Complete appropriate documentation and paperwork
o Ensure that established policies, rules and regulations and procedures are followed
o Maintain thorough knowledge of all processes and equipment
o Perform all work in compliance with company standards, procedures and regulatory requirements
o Perform any other terminal functions as trained, requested and instructed by supervision.
Position Requirements
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: High School diploma or equivalent
EXPERIENCE / SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE:
Minimum of 5 years of successful work experience, preferred specializing in the stevedoring of vessels.
o Minimum of 3 years in a lead position or higher capacity required
o Basic knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word and database applications
o Basic knowledge and experience on specific equipment used in the terminal (cranes, forklifts, trucks, heavy equipment, hydraulic equipment)
o Basic mathematical skills (including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division)
o Demonstrated experience leading / supervising others
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
Must have and maintain a valid driver''s license and be insurable by the company insurance carrier
COMPETENCIES, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
o Ability to focus attention and follow work rules
o Ability to accept supervision / direction and work effectively and cooperatively with other people
o Ability to adjust to changing operating conditions
o Must be proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint)
o Must be able to communicate clearly, verbally and in writing, in English
o Must be able to obtain and maintain TWIC Security clearance
o Successful completion of background check and post offer and random drug screens
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Must be able to climb up to heights of up to 50 feet
o Must meet physical requirements, including, but not limited to:
o consistently lifting / carrying and pulling / pushing weights / forces up to 60 pounds
o gripping forces of up to 80 pounds
o routine walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, bending and squating, climbing up / down ladders and stairs, standing,
o sitting, and negotiating uneven and moving surfaces
o Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus
o Must meet medical criteria for use of respiratory protective equipment when required
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Must be willing / able to work all shifts, overtime, weekends and holidays as needed and required
o Must be available to respond to emergency situations on a 24/7 basis
o Will be subject to working outside in extreme weather conditions
o Must be able to work under pressure to meet deadlines
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE / EDUCATION / CERTIFICATIONS: (Not mandatory but advantageous in this position)
Prior experience in a marine facility
Prior supervisory experience
Technical School or Associate Degree
First Aid / CPR certification

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
